The ATM Safety Act applies to all Federal- and State-chartered banks and credit unions that operate ATMs in New York State and requires that their facilities meet certain standards for safety. For example, there are minimum standards for sight-lines and exterior lighting in and around ATM facilities. Bank ATM facilities are also required to have surveillance systems, operational door locks and a prominently displayed contact number in the event that a customer has an issue with a machine or facility. These standards are important for public safety.
